Key Background:
The new SEHA Abu Dhabi Dialysis Centre, one of which recently opened its doors, is a centre that has the potential to deliver critical care to Emiratis who have kidney failure and deliver free dialysis treatment for indigent patients. The centre is a joint initiative by the Authority of Social Contribution – Ma’an, PureHealth, and SEHA, the largest healthcare group in the region. The centre, situated on Zayed The First Street, will further ease access to healthcare and assist Abu Dhabi in responding to pressing social needs. The initiative supplements Ma’an’s ‘From the Community to the Community’ initiative, whereby it will use donations made by the community to address major problems within the emirate.
The center is a reaction to the rising demand for the treatment of dialysis in the area, which has a high concentration of residents that need to be constantly treated for kidney failure. With the first capacity to receive 112 patients, the centre has dialysis done thrice a week with the assistance of high technology such as hemodiafiltration machines and electronic medical records to provide better treatment to the patients. SEHA is going to increase the capacity of the centre to receive 56 additional patients and provide peritoneal dialysis in the future.
The center has been donated by well-wishers who have donated millions of dirhams to form it. Social outreach programs involving cooperation with leading artists have also offered a homey environment to patients. Colorful murals painted by the artists of Department of Municipalities and Transport further contribute to a healing environment.
The center symbolizes the UAE’s dedication to social influence, access to healthcare, and the significance of community-based support as per the nation’s vision of sustainable development.
