Key Background

Saudi Arabia’s new bold national carrier Riyadh Air is pulling out all stops to become among the world’s top premium players. Backed by the state’s sovereign Public Investment Fund (PIF), the airline forms part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 economic diversification drive to create economic diversification and diversify from oil to diversify, thanks to tourism and international connectivity. Riyadh Air targets more than 100 locations by 2030, catapulting the kingdom into a hub nation.

The airline just revealed the interior of its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet. They have “Business Elite” suites with 32-inch 4K OLED screens, truly flat lie-flat beds, privacy doors, wireless charging, and high-quality-sounding systems that were co-developed with luxury brand Devialet. Even the middle seats convert to double beds for total bliss on long-haul flights.

Premium economy cabin will also feature Recaro seats of 38-inch pitch and wider width for maximum legroom and support. Even economy class passengers will enjoy 13.4-inch 4K screens and ergonomic seating for a high-quality experience in all cabin classes.

Although the first batch of Dreamliners will not have a first-class cabin, Riyadh Air has already planned to include this premium class in its fleet plans in the future. Aircraft types such as Airbus A350 or Boeing 777X are being considered for offering space for these facilities.

Tony Douglas, Riyadh Air’s CEO, reinforced the vision to deliver an end-to-end high-flying experience. Despite Boeing deliveries’ setbacks having delayed its launch to Q3 2025, Riyadh Air is dedicated to innovation and operational excellence. Customer- and technology-led initiatives, Riyadh Air will redefine the Middle East region’s aviation industry dynamics in the local marketplace and internationally.
