His Majesty With a budget of AED 100 million, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister, Vice President, and Ruler of Dubai of the United Arab Emirates, established the Great Arab Minds initiative, the biggest scientific endeavor in the Arab world. The movement’s goal is to find and identify Great Minds in the Arab world—the outstanding abilities of academics, intellectuals, inventors, innovators, and Arab creators in a variety of fields—so that they can be supported, empowered, and their ideas can be developed in partnership with the best international partners, maximizing their beneficial effects in the region.
Over five years, the Great Arab Minds initiative will identify the 1,000 most influential Arab minds across six categories:
- Natural Sciences (Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry)
- Economics
- Medicine
- Literature and Arts
- Engineering and Technology
- Architecture and Design
In order to assist, empower, and recognize these brilliant minds and to invest in them in order to secure a better future for the region, the project will also work with governments, academic institutions, and research centers across the Arab world.
To commemorate people who made the list, the Great Arab Minds list is announced annually at an award event held at the Museum of the Future in Dubai. One winner from each of the six prize categories will receive the Great Arab Minds prize. To increase their influence in the Arab world, each laureate will get AED 1 million to further their studies and initiatives there.
Additionally, Great Arab Minds will have the chance to sign up for the Great Arab Minds Program, which gives them access to tools that allow them to carry on working with esteemed organizations and businesses throughout the globe.
The goal of the Great Arab Minds initiative is to revive the enthusiasm of brilliant thinkers and trailblazers in the domains of science and culture in order to advance knowledge-based development.
